TRUNsylvania International 10K

The race dedicated to professional athletes, but also the only road race in Romania certified by the World Athletics Elite Label, became known in 2022 among the runner community all over the world, thanks to the extremely fast track on which historical performances of the 10 km test were run on the road.

One of the athletes who will participate in this competition is Weldon Threads,from Kenya, present for the second consecutive year at the START line, determined to improve on its performance from last year, when it placed second.

Which is determined to go better than last year's second place.

Weldon Langat, 25, competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 10,000m trial, and in January he won the famous 10km race in Valencia with a time of 26:55, equalling his personal record set last September in Brasov.

Langat aims, for this year, to break the record of 26:51 in the TRUNsylvania International 10K, set by his compatriot Nicolas Kipkorir Kimeli, the winner of 2022.

“We want the Brasov Running Festival to become one of the most important road running events in Europe, with the ultimate goal of seeing world records set here. Thanks to the route, specially chosen and organized on a 3.3 km loop in the Coresi neighborhood, spectators who come to attend the competition will have a fantastic experience,” said Daniel Santa, director of Brașov Running Festival.

Also, the men's 10 km race will be attended by many other world-class athletes, among whom we nominate:

  • Cornelius Kemboi, participant of the Budapest World Athletics Championships 2023 in the 5,000 meter trial;
  • Edward Zakayo Pingua, the 2018 under-20 world champion in the 5,000 m trial;
  • Emanuel Kiprop, with the best time achieved on 10 km, of 27:13;
  • Laban Kiplimo, with the best time achieved on the 10 km, of 27:15.

Ngetich also participated in the Brașov Running Festival last year, taking second place in the 10 km race. The athlete's track record also includes the bronze medal at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships and an impressive personal record in the 10 km road time trial of 30:27.

The full list of performance athletes who will participate in the TRunnsylvania International 10K race, within the Brașov Running Festival, will be announced near the event.

The Brașov Running Festival will also include the race European Road Mile, which will take place on Saturday, September 9. It will bring together some of the best European halfback runners, specialists of the 1,500 meter trials on the track.

“With the Road Mile becoming recognised record-breaking events, many of Europe's best middle-distance runners will seek to make their names in the history books. The European Road Mile is a perfect opportunity at the end of the season to highlight this talent on the road, following the performances of these runners on the track at the World Athletics Championships and the remaining Diamond League meetings.”, commented Santa.

Daniel Santa also added:

“Many very good runners have already expressed interest in participating in the European Road Mile, but we will only be able to communicate the final list with the names of European athletes after the completion of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. We have discussions with many athletes involved in the races at this competition.”

In addition to the TrunSylvania 10K and the European Road Mile, the Brasov Running Festival also programs races dedicated to amateur runners of all ages.

On Saturday, September 9, the 800 m, 1,200 m and 3,000 m races for children and juniors will be held, and on Sunday, September 10, the open 5 km and 10 km races dedicated to adults will be held.
